At the request of the Autonomous Port of Marseille, the photographer and marine biologist Laurent Ballesta went to meet the landscapes, fauna and marine flora in the concrete basins of the economic giant for an unusual project: carte blanche to show what the surface of the waters modestly hides from our eyes. And what was meant to be an immersion in an abiotic cesspool turns out to be alive, even vivifying. Life clings, adapts, unfolds. The port is already the sea with its biodiversity, its ecosystems... its wrecks too. Between industrial waste and protected species miraculously preserved, this underwater portrait of the port appears singular as well as contrasted.
